Hello Out There

Hi Folks

Thanks for checking out the old bloggerino. I haven’t much to report on the music front, although I continue to bash away at my composing as energy allows. Instead most of my attention is on dealing with the illnesses (from here on let’s call them my buddies – sounds less threatening doesn’t it). Anyway, my buddies are still with me and largely in control of things (I didn’t say they were honest, true blue, ever faithful type buddies) so I am adapting my life to fit their lifestyle. I have been finally discharged from hospital (I think for the last time…but one never knows) to continue my rehab at home and as an outpatient.

I have put all work on hold (doctor’s orders) but can’t resist the occasional composing session to keep me feeling good about myself). I am hoping to get to the point soon when practicing piano and saxophone can be included in my daily routine.

New meds, increased meds, phased out meds: all are a fact of life for the mentally ill.

Therapists, neurologists, psychologists and the biggest of all, psychiatrists and their teams have been fantastic. All part of the rebuilding project. I have an incredible psychiatrist now. He not only is a man who has distinguished himself in the field of neuropsychiatry, he is also keenly involved in music and has published a book on the violinist Michael Rabin. I haven’t read it yet, but only because I haven’t found it. It is high on my list.

PRO – my jazz orchestra is playing next at the REX, 194 Queen St. West in Toronto on June 22 at 12:00 noon. Two sets. This is part of the Toronto Jazz Festival presentations. If you can make it by, I may have some new music for you to hear.

I’m off for a few days of non-music, non-work activity with my wife and her sister. Will write when I return.

Thanks for checking in.

Paul
