Check out Scott Robinson

First, I must mention that Scott is one of the most elusive musician/artists to define. He plays many instruments and in many styles. Does that mean he lacks direction in his art? Hardly. He is one of the most focused and committed artists I have ever met. I am writing about him in my blog today as I came across this excellent article on Inside Jazz. Check it out: http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=15354

He is a personal friend (I am proud to say) and to know him is to love him. He inspires and accepts. He is a truly open and gracious and generous spirit. There is a short discography at the end of the article quoted above. It does not include the quartet recording Scott did with me on piano, Kieran Overs on bass and Barry Elmes on drums which I hope you might also check out. Its available through Indie Pool and if you click on the recording tabs, I believe there is hot link there. But it is also available on iTunes, eMusic and PureTracks among other digital distributors.

I didn’t start out to make this a commerical for the quartet record. I am such a fan of Scott, I would love you to check him out. The record he did with Bob Brookmeyer and the New Art Orchestra is a timeless classic. Great everything: playing, writing, production… you name it. And TOTALLY mesmerizing music.

Really…….check the article at allaboutjazz and then dig into one of the finest jazz artists you will ever hear.

(And thanks to Scott, while staying at his place in New Jersey, I got to play with Rufus Reid and Eliot Zigmund (two other heros) in a post dinner, very fun jam session in the converted garage/studio….the only place I have ever seen a contrabass banjo……I kid you not!
