Amato, Collins, Read Trio

Just did another gig with Joe Amato and Pat Collins yesterday afternoon. Very enjoyable group. Joe is the leader of the band but has chosen to share the name with the rest of us. We played for a fund raising event at the prestigious National Club in downtown Toronto. Lovely place and the paintings up for bids were quite good. My favourite was gone in no time. Not that I had 3 grand in my pocket to start with.

Doing lots of writing these days and organizing for the next PRO gig in June. Will keep you posted. I would like to play some of the newer pieces in the works and this time we actually have managed to find rehearsal time.

Tonight – PRO at the REX. 9:30 p.m.

If you are out and about tonight please consider dropping by the REX Jazz and Blues Bar at 194 Queen Street West in Toronto to hear the Paul Read Orchestra. Trish won’t be singing tonight because of a prior commitment, but the band will be playing some of our older and newer pieces. The roster is pretty much the same as always. Larry Shields is still out with a broken arm so we are grateful that Colin Murray will be able to join us bass trombone. Brian O’Kane (almost a band regular) is in for Chase Sanborn. And finally Dave Neill makes his debut with the band on baritone saxophone. We appreciate his stepping in for Bob Leonard who had another commitment.

Hope to see you there.

Grampa Read

Hey
On April 4, the greatest thing happened. My daughter Kelly (and her husband Craig) brought a new person into our lives. Kyle Read Lyon (Read is his middle name). This is one cute kid, I have to brag. So far he’s doing all the essential human things including sleeping a lot, so already he’s like his grandfather! I think Kyle updates will have to be a part of this blog from time to time.

Getting ready for the next performance of the P.R.O.. Happens this coming Thursday evening at the Rex and hope you might be able to come by a catch a set.
