PRO at the Rex
Last Monday was a great first night for the band. Lots of people out to hear us and everyone seemed to have a good time. I have been gratified to get emails and calls telling me how much they enjoyed the night!! Next up is the Port Hope Festival on Sep 24th (unless something happens in the meantime). We will be playing at Port Hope Festival on the 24th at 5:30 pm. More details later. By the way, if you would like to add your name to the mailing list, please enter my website and hit the “subscribe to Paul’s email” button on the first page or on the “CONTACT” page of the site.
This week has been more big band work. This time mixing and mastering a brand new CD from the University of Toronto 10 O’clock Jazz Orchestra. It has been a lot of fun listening to the music (up close and personal as they say) we recorded in April. Release is planned for the fall and if you are interested in a copy, please let me know. This was a very strong band this year and like a lot of college and university bands, managed to play a lot of difficult music extremely well. I say this because advanced level students rehearsing twice a week can really put things together. The CD sounds wonderful.
I’m off to Saskatoon on Saturday. I’ll be playing piano with Jon McCaslin’s quintet at the Bassment on the 24th (part of the Sasktel Jazz Festival) and then we go to Regina for a CBC recording/concert. Then I’m back to Saskatoon to work with an all star group of students for the week. We’ll be performing a concert at the end of that week.
Trish is coming out to Saskatoon during the week and will be working a parallel project in the vocal side of things. Then we come home together. After that we are going to take a much needed break.
One last thing. THANKS to all who have sent best wishes following my recent surgery. All went VERY WELL and I am feeling fit and healthy….well healthy. I haven’t been working out too much so the fit part is going to have to wait a little.
All the best
Paul
